The American Legion
Department of Virginia
The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual help and community service organization. The Department of Virginia is comprised of 17 Districts containing 208 Posts with a total membership of over 39,500 Legionnaires. In 2018 The Department of Virginia Celebrated our 100th Annual Convention marking a major milestone in our history. The American Legion and Department of Virginia consist of a Family of organizations: The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion and The Legion Riders. Each of these groups works together in the spirit of mutual helpfulness to support our Military Veterans.
